Microsoft Office and Office 365 software

You can have a one license or many.  Some versions allow the software to be run on multiple devices, some are only for consumers and others only for institutions or organisations.

What’s what!

Office 2016 products are all Perpetual licenses (one-off payment, yours to use forever).  If you want to keep up to date you would either purchase new versions of Office as they were released or add additional cost Software Assurance at the time you purchase your license (adds about 50% to the cost, please call for details).

Office 365 products are all Subscription licenses (usually an annual payment).  A feature of most Office 365 options is that Office on your desktop is included.  Office 365 also gives you all new versions of the software as Microsoft release them at no extra charge.

Which to choose?

Students: If your institution does not provide access to the free student Office 365 license - Office 365 Personal or Office 365 Home (subscription), Office Mac Home and Student 2016 or Office Home and Student 2016.

Home use or working from home: Office Home and Student 2016 or Office Mac Home and Student 2016.

Home use if you need Outlook: Office Home and Business 2016 or Office Mac Home and Business 2016.

…and if you need Access: Office Professional 2016

Not for Profit organisations and Education institutions wanting a perpetual license: Office Standard (Std) 2016, Office Mac Standard (Std) 2016 or Office Professional Plus (Pro Plus) 2016 is your least cost route. 

Not for Profit organisations requiring Office 365 or preferring a subscription license: Office 365 Pro Plus Subs Annual.

Education institutions requiring a subscription license: Usually best provided by OVS or Schools site license agreements.  Please call 01462 499599 for more information on these.  These can include Office for use by staff and students at no extra cost.
